HCV Strategy

Cambridgeshire County Council has recently reviewed its HCV (Heavy Commercial Vehicle) strategy, which has now been approved by Cabinet. The full HCV Strategy report can be viewed here.

The policy recognises the economic importance of road haulage and the need to balance this with the environmental impact of lorries, through partnership working with the haulage industry and local communities.  It sets out a range of interventions to mitigate lorry impacts, stressing that formal regulation should be considered the final and not the first option.

Consultation

In March and November 2011 we consulted with local Parish Councils on our proposals and gave a HCV meeting presentation (2Mb). The feedback (64Kb) from the November meeting is now available to view.

The process

The HCV strategy flow chart (87Kb) shows how we might go through the process with local communities.

By working through the Exposure index (109Kb) a community would measure the amount of exposure it may have to HCV traffic. If communities feel strongly enough about the situation then this will give them a framework for measuring the relative impact of HCVs on their environment.
