The new Cambridgeshire Online Directory is now live and has replaced Cambridgeshire.net and the Family Information Directory.

We are working on re-instating information formerly published on the Family Information Directory on the new directory.

  • You only need a unique email address and password to create an account
  • Accounts are not tied to a specific organisation, you can now create events without the need to list an organisation first
  • However once you have created a listing, you will then get an option to link other listings or other events to it, by selecting it in the 'provided by' section. If you have selected a listing in 'provided by' then the listing created will be shown on the providers page as 'other listings by this provider' to the public
  • For both listings and events, you can save the contact or location by adding a reference name. You can then use this again on other listings. If more than one published event uses a saved location - The listings will display under 'other listings at this venue' to the public
  • We have three sets of categories - only the first set is required, and are similar to the current Cambridgeshire.net categories. But you can now also indicate if the listing or event 'supports our residents needs', or 'council delivery' eg the local offer.
  • You can now also add tags - we have 630 to choose from, just type in key words and select the nearest ones, it is optional. Over time we will modify the available keywords and strip out ones that are not used. Tags only show on each listings details page and when clicked will show other records that share that tag.
  • Some of our trusted providers and services will have access to our tagging system and may add tags to your listing - this is so when they are supporting their customers they can group all the records they want to promote into groupings that suit their needs.
  • Recurring events now display as dates under the current event - and replaces the current searchable event when it expires. After all instances of the event have expired the event will no longer be displayed.
  • The directory is now embedded in the council's website - this provides a boost to the listings and events added, as they now also benefit from our trusted search engine ranking as a gov.uk website.
  • We will shortly be looking at getting feeds from other directories and trusted registering bodies - for example we already have a feed for schools and childcare providers from Ofsted. We are going to be exploring a feed from CQC to bring in care provision and care homes, NHS feed for doctors, dentists and pharmacies. We might also explore other maintained listings such as registered therapists or events run by Age UK if we can capture this information.
  • We are working on improving the search and how search results are displayed. There are some missing data fields and the search will not be accurate for the next few weeks.
  • The current mapping solution uses the postcode you enter to pinpoint your location based on the centre of the postcode,. We are looking at introducing an address lookup to improve the accuracy of the pin, but also make entering addresses more consistent.  For select listings we are also exploring GIS mapping so we can capture data such as boundaries, catchment areas and overlay route information.
  • You can currently save your 'locations' and reuse only those you create. But we will soon be adding the ability to select from key locations such as libraries, so you can use these and get your listing displayed as part of what's on at the library if your event takes place there.
  • We will improve the options for managing your content such as being able to preview your listing before submitting, copying a listing and deleting a listing. We are only using a very basic workflow for now.  We are also working on improving email notifications and other automated messaging during the creation of accounts, listings and events.
  • We are continuing to work on the tags and improve the way they function, we are aware they load slowly especially if you add more then five.
  • We will continue to work on the design, layout and user experience throughout - for example the date format displayed as DD/MM/YYYY
  • As more records are entered we will be reviewing search engine optimisation, and the directory search function and making tweaks to how results are presented.
  • We are exploring a second tier editor interface for trusted staff and partners, with more features available such as adding images, documents, promoting  listings, and the ability to tags listings across the entire directory. This could also include setting them up to approve certain groups of listings
  • We currently have a list of other features we would like to have in future developments, such as widgets so you can embed the directory data on your own websites, customising the data being displayed and bringing the directory search and our main website search together. Once we have addressed bugs and issues for phase one, we will share our development plans with our community of contributors - and future phases could include ideas suggested by contributors and users.

I want to add a recurring event for Monday monthly but it will alternate from 1st week to second week and back to first week each month. This is not a traditional recurring pattern, for now please enter as single calendar events. We are looking into the possibility of an 'adhoc recurring event' option where you can select from a range of dates. We will then add this into the development schedule if it is possible. We are also looking into improving the 'my account area' with a copy option so you can easily create an event, copy it and simply change the date on the copy before submitting it - which could also help address this issue.

There is already an entry on the directory for my organisation. We have added some select organisations and services to the directory that our services has said they commonly refer or signpost to, If you want to take ownership of this listing, or remove it because you have added  your organisation via the public form, please contact [email protected].
