Older Adults Social Inclusion Grants

Building based Day Services in March Fenland April 2025 to March 2027

Cambridgeshire County Council would like to grant fund Day services aimed at supporting older adults over 65 with emerging care/support needs (not in receipt of an adult social care assessment/payment) to be:

  • socially included in their community
  • more physically active
  • as independent as they can be.

These outcomes support our Care Together objective of enabling older adults to remain independent for as long as possible.

Grant available:

We have a maximum of £56,000 each year (£112,000 total) via a two-year grant agreement. We can grant fund one or two building based day services within this budget.

If you would like to apply for the grant, please complete the application form and submit to care.together@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

The deadline for all grant applications is 5pm 3 December 2024.

Cambridgeshire Council for Voluntary Service (CCVS) have the capacity to assist organisations with the application for the advertised grants if required enquiries@cambridgecvs.org.uk

Older Adults Day Opportunities - what "good" looks like

We collected data from interviews with people who use services, carers, social care and community staff and community members from East Cams (Appreciate Inquiry work) as well as carer surveys.

A good day opportunity:

  • has friendly, supportive staff and a welcoming atmosphere
  • gives people choices on a range of activities
  • sees people for their strengths
  • provides a sense of purpose
  • offers a place to make new friendships with people with similar interests
  • connects people to their local community
  • opens more than one day a week
  • offers information and advice
  • does not call themselves a ‘day service’
  • has the budget for activities and community visits
  • if building based, is big enough, accessible, warm and clean

A good ‘day opportunities’ offer recognises that there is a need for varying types of day opportunities, depending on the level of need and interests of the community.

A good day opportunity offer:

  • recognises the importance of the location of available services
  • enables people to attend activities they enjoy
  • includes varied activities or specific interest groups e.g., men’s sheds, cycling groups
  • includes longer services for carer respite (e.g., if once a week, then be a full day)
  • recognises generational gaps between 65-year-olds and 90-year-olds
