Cambridgeshire Deaf Association

We support Deaf people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

If a Deaf individual is extremely isolated or self-isolating at this time and they have no support to get food or medication, we have a volunteer service that can provide collection and delivery of food or medication. Our volunteers are also able to facetime or video call or text Deaf individuals who may need some sort of social support at this time.

If a Deaf individual is facing additional communication or accessibility issues due to the Covid-19 situation, we also provide support casework and Advocacy services to support with phone calls, contacting service providers, research into individuals options around benefits or income support or support to ensure Interpreters are provided. We also support clients to learn to use new technologies to keep them in touch with family, friends and the Deaf community. We have supported clients to learn how to use various methods of video call as well as speech-to-text apps and other methods of supporting technology that aids communication.

Community groups run daily by videocall (zoom) so people can join and discuss with other Deaf people and maintain a social life.

Through Social Media, we produce BSL videos to share information with the Deaf community about the current situation. We make these as relevant as we can to the community and the current circumstances.
