A by-election will be held on May 7 for the Whittlesey North Division of Cambridgeshire County following the resignation of Councillor Martin Curtis.

Councillor Curtis, former Council Leader, stood down as a County Councillor on 22 March ensuring the resultant by-election will take place on the same day as the General Election.

He was first elected to the County Council from 5 May 2005 and became Cabinet member for Children and Young People from 2008. He then became Cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing from 2011.

Councillor Curtis was also Cabinet Member for Adult Services from 2012 before becoming Leader of the Council in May 2013 until May 2014 when he resigned from the post.
