Frank Jordan is to join Cambridgeshire County Council as its new Executive Director of Place and Sustainability.
His new role was created as part of the corporate leadership team restructure led by council Chief Executive, Stephen Moir, aimed at slimming down and refocusing his senior team on Cambridgeshire’s unique challenges and opportunities.
These challenges were outlined in recommendations made as part of last year’s Local Government Association Peer Challenge, which highlighted the need for a stronger focus on Cambridgeshire as a place looking at its recent and potential growth - and by the council’s Joint Administration in its key priority to tackle the climate crisis, while still ensuring Cambridgeshire can be a greener, fairer and more caring county.
Frank is currently the Corporate Director of Resident Services at Nottingham City Council, leading a range of essential frontline services. He was previously Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director for Place at Cheshire East Council and prior to that has held a number of senior roles leading diverse services and teams in Northumberland County Council and Newcastle and Leicester City Councils. This all means he brings significant experience of providing strategic leadership and across place-based services and functions, including Highways and Transport, Planning, Infrastructure, and the natural environment.
He will replace Steve Cox, who earlier in the year announced his decision to step down from the council once a successor had been appointed.
In Nottingham, Frank’s key achievements have included re-energising and improving the City’s strategic partnership working with the public, private, cultural, voluntary, faith and community leaders, and in East Cheshire he led the delivery of a successful and comprehensive economic growth strategy and delivery plan, as well as the Borough’s environment strategy, including a credible plan for becoming a carbon neutral council by 2025.
Commenting upon this appointment, Frank said “What particularly attracted me to this exciting role was the clear sense of ambition and the core values that have been set by the administration and the Chief Executive. I am really looking forward to joining the County Council in the new year and working with councillors, colleagues, and partners in realising the collective vision for Cambridgeshire and improving the outcomes for its people.”
“Cambridgeshire is an incredibly exciting place to live and work, with a real sense of helping shape the future of our world, but the growth of the science and tech sector, and manufacturing in the north of the County, bring challenges of their own. By working with our partners and harnessing the innovation and skills that already exist within the county we will make sure the growth which benefits the world, is also beneficial to our area,” said Cllr Lucy Nethsingha, Leader of the County Council. “I am really looking forward to working with Frank to make sure we are planning for a sustainable and equitable future for Cambridgeshire.”
“I was delighted that the lure of working in such an exciting and dynamic leadership role led to a strong field of candidates, from which Frank was the stand out candidate and the unanimous choice of Councillors, “said Stephen Moir, the Council’s Chief Executive. “Along with our other recent senior appointments, I am really looking forward to Frank joining the team and bringing all of his skill, expertise and experience to the County Council and, working with our partners, to the benefit Cambridgeshire and Peterborough as a place.”
Frank will be joining the council in Spring 2023.
