Today’s annual meeting of Cambridgeshire County Council has elected Cllr Sebastian Kindersley to serve as its Chair of Council for the next two years, Cllr Gerri Bird was elected vice Chair.
Cllr Kindersley takes over from Councillor Stephen Ferguson, and will be serving his second term as Chair having previously held this office from 2015 to 2017.
“I am delighted to have been once again elected by fellow councillors to the role of Chair of the Council, having held the position before I am aware that it is a role which comes with many responsibilities.”
“We face a challenging time ahead with many important decisions coming to Full Council as we strive to make Cambridgeshire greener, fairer and more caring and I am delighted to once again play my part in helping the county council run effectively and continue to deliver strong outcomes for residents and communities.”
“I am also pleased to take up the Civic leadership of the council and continue with the good work of my predecessor in representing the County Council and the people of Cambridgeshire at a range of different events and activities.”
Cllr Lucy Nethsingha, leader of Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “I am delighted that Sebastian has been elected Chair of Council, as he brings so much experience and expertise to the role. He is also an excellent ambassador for the council across the county, and the whole joint administration of the council wishes him every success.”
New appointee background details
Cllr Kindersley was first elected to represent the Liberal Democrats as County Councillor for Gamlingay Division in 2005, he is a company director, and also acts as Chairman for CamBedRailRoad, is the Chairman of Trustees for Sir John Jacobs Almshouses in Gamlingay, and a Trustee of the CAM Academy Trust. He is also a keen winter sports enthusiast.
Cllr Bird represents Chesterton Division on the County Council, a seat she has held for the Labour party since 2021.
