The County Council has been informed by the Regional Schools Commissioner, Sue Baldwin, that she has raised concerns with the St Neots Learning Partnership over the lack of progress with improving standards of performance at Ernulf Academy.
The St Neots Learning Partnership has management responsibility for both the Ernulf and Longsands schools in St Neots, which as academies operate independently of the County Council. They each have a Funding Agreement with the Secretary of State for Education. As such, their educational performance and standards are monitored by the Regional Schools Commissioner.
There is no suggestion or proposal that Ernulf Academy will close. What is being considered is the possibility of another multi-academy trust being asked to take on responsibility for leading and managing Ernulf in place of the St Neots Learning Partnership with the primary aim of improving children’s educational outcomes.
Council officers are liaising with the Regional Schools Commissioner to better understand how and when decisions will be made and how these will be communicated to staff, parents, pupils and the local community.
