Cambridgeshire Archives is holding a free drop-in event on Monday 16 November, 11am-1pm at Shire Hall for residents to discover the history of houses, buildings and streets by showcasing available sources for tracing the history of their own home. Expert staff from the Archives will also be on hand offering tips and advice.
Cambridgeshire County Council's Archives and Local Studies Manager, Alan Akeroyd said "Our collection of house history sources is wide-ranging, including maps, photographs, deeds, plans, sales particulars, and more from the 17th century to the present day. There's so much to discover - maps, plans and deeds provide the architectural history, whilst the census, electoral registers and wills can reveal who lived in the house, and provide clues about what their lives may have been like."
A range of documents, from 18th century drainage petitions to modern-day aerial photographs, a 17th century estate map to Victorian pub licences will also be on display.
