Getting ready to go back to school

As the summer holidays draw to a close, youngsters across Cambridgeshire will be getting ready for the new school year.

To help parents prepare them for the start of the new term, we have rounded up some useful information to make the transition from holidays to school days a little easier.

While new school uniform, sports kit and stationery are always on the to-do lists, transport, school meals and term dates are also high up on the agenda.

You can find out if your child is likely to be eligible for free or subsidised transport here.

Children from households with lower incomes may be entitled to free school meals.

If you are a new parent of a child going into reception year or have not applied for free school meals before, you can do so here.

Families can save around £400 a year for each primary school child if they are entitled to free school meals.

Parents of children who receive free school meals who have recently moved house, need to notify us of their new address so we can update their claim.

Those parents who have an existing claim do not need to reapply.

If your child is going into Year 6 this term - get ready to apply for secondary schools as applications for places open on 12 September.

You can apply online from this date.

To find out more, including the deadline for applications, visit our secondary school pages here.

Or if you want to start planning your holidays already for next year, you can get ahead with new school term dates and closures for 2017/18 here.
