Help for residents to get online

10 October 2022

Residents across Cambridgeshire who are struggling to get online are being offered a helping hand as part of a national initiative.

‘Get Online Week’ takes place from October 17 – 23 and to coincide with the scheme, Cambridgeshire Libraries are promoting their LendIT service, which offers members the chance to borrow a laptop or tablet device.

Cambridgeshire Libraries have 40 laptops and 20 tablets which can be borrowed free of charge for up to one week, MiFis can also be borrowed alongside these devices to provide free internet access. The laptops were kindly donated by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Make a Difference Award winners Cambs Youth Panel.

Cllr Tom Sanderson, Chair of the council’s Communities, Social Mobility and Inclusion Committee, said: “We are fully committed to helping people who are struggling to get online, so I’m delighted that our Libraries are offering this worthwhile service as part of Get Online Week.

“I’m sure it will make a positive difference for those in need of online access. Whether you need to get online for an important interview, are having problems with your laptop or just want to access some information, our Libraries staff can help.”

The laptops and tablets are available to all Cambridgeshire Library members – any member interested in borrowing a device is urged to enquire at their local library. For more details about libraries in Cambridgeshire and how to become a member visit here.

To also coincide with Get Online Week, libraries across the county will be holding activities and events aimed at helping people boost their digital skills.
