Director of Public Health, Dr Liz Robin said:  "The Children's Traffic Club will start getting the road safety message to children of this age and we hope this will help keep them safe throughout their life."

The Children's Traffic Club (CTC) is the most researched, monitored and evaluated road safety education programme ever in the UK. Since its beginnings it has been constantly monitored and evaluated to ensure it remains effective as an educational programme for pre-school children, and as a casualty reduction tool. The research has consistently proven that CTC has the ability to help save lives, and influence the lifelong habits of children as road users from a pre-school age.

Comment from a Cambridgeshire nursery, ""I would just like to say a massive thank you to the children's traffic club - the children absolutely love their parcel when it arrives.  They are all much more aware of different aspects of safety and often talk about staying safe when out and about as well as wearing their seatbelts in the car. The parents have also said that they enjoy looking at the discs with their children."

Activity packs which contain books, DVD's, cards and stickers are given to the children to take home at staggered intervals through the year, these resources have been carefully structured to follow the child's development, so the simplest messages are introduced in the first pack, then repeated through with different characters, stories, games, songs and activities, and gradually increasing complexity throughout each DVD.

Councillor Steve Criswell, Chair of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership said' "Children's traffic club does not just have an effect on the pre-school children themselves, all family members benefit from the content, particularly parents and older siblings which is likely to have a positive effect on casualties and behaviour in other road user groups."
