A South Cambridgeshire primary school is in the top 1% of schools nationally for its year 6 maths results for the second year running.
An impressive 100% of pupils at Meldreth Primary School reached or exceeded the expected standard in maths in the Key Stage 2 SATS. The school recently received a letter from Nick Gibbs, the Minister of State for School Standards in recognition of this achievement.
Headteacher Sasha Howard said ”We are very proud of the achievement of our children. We have put a lot of work into our maths teaching at Meldreth. We take a ‘maths mastery’ approach which means that there is a real focus on fun and enjoyment in the subject with children frequently working together in supportive groups to deepen their understanding and succeed in all areas’
“We have also boosted the amount of information that we provide to parents to help them to get more involved and support their children at home.”
“The increase in engagement and enjoyment in maths lessons is really noticeable. There is a real buzz - all the children enjoy what they are doing and feel successful in their maths learning.”
