Wisbech residents will have a chance to find out more about transport schemes planned for the town next week at a public event.

The Wisbech Access Strategy is a package of schemes aiming to improve transport in the area. The schemes will be vital to support future housing and job growth set out in Fenland’s Local Plan.

Between 1pm and 9pm on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 July, residents are invited to go along to the Boathouse Business Centre in Harbour Square to see how designs are progressing on the schemes, which were amended following a public consultation at the end of 2017.

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Chair of the Economy and Environment Committee, Councillor Ian Bates said “This is a chance to find out more about the Wisbech Access Strategy and see the work that’s taken place so far on designing these key transport schemes. The public consultation highlighted the importance of making sure our schemes would work with any potential plans for rail in the town, so there will also be a chance to see the two options that are in development for the Southern Access Road.”

Cambridgeshire County Council, along with Fenland District Council and the former Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (GCGP LEP), now The Business Board, successfully bid for funds from the Government’s Growth Fund to deliver the transport schemes. £10.5million was awarded to the partners to deliver a package of short-term schemes.

Fenland District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport, Cllr Chris Seaton, said: “Residents who took part in the consultation helped to shape the transport schemes being put forward, ensuring that both road and rail proposals for the town support each other.

“The schemes offer the best solution to existing transport problems in and around the town, improve accessibility and encourage much needed housing and economic growth. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to The Boathouse and see how the designs are progressing for themselves.”
