Cambridgeshire County Council is partnering with social impact specialists, Goal 17 Ltd to launch a mentoring programme aimed at supporting young care leavers.
The programme will recruit and train mentors from across the county to provide guidance, advice, and support to young care leavers as they navigate the challenges of adulthood. This will help young people to build self-esteem, develop new skills, and achieve their full potential.
Local people are being invited to volunteer as mentors in this forward-thinking programme to become a mentor. Individuals will undergo a training program provided by Goal 17 Ltd that will see them learn valuable skills and receive a university certificate in recognition of their progress. Mentors and Mentees will be brought together in enriching relationships and will receive ongoing support and guidance. The partnerships will have an initial 9-month period and the organisers expect to see the young people making big strides in this time frame.
To facilitate the mentoring process, Goal 17 Ltd will be utilizing the Wowment App, mentoring technology platform that helps mentors and mentees connect and communicate effectively. The app allows mentors and mentees to set goals, track progress, and collaborate in real-time, making the mentoring process more efficient and effective.
Councillor Bryony Goodliffe, Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee, said:
“We are fully behind this partnership and the incredible opportunity that it offers to care leavers and those who choose to become mentors.
“Our young people deserve the very best guidance and support at a time when we can do more to share skills, help develop our young people’s esteem and more importantly give them the tools they need to deal with adulthood. I encourage our community to come forward and consider becoming a volunteer.”
The mentoring programme is set to launch in the coming months, and Goal 17 Ltd is actively seeking mentors to participate in the program. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
