A programme supporting people with learning disabilities is seeking a wealth of donations for their new Rags to Riches shop opening in Huntingdon.
The shop will be part of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Supporting into Work (SITW) programme which provides people with learning disabilities a work style environment to boost their skills and confidence levels.
Rags to Riches is opening on Saturday 24 March as part of Huntingdon Community Centre’s open day, along with other SITW projects including TAG Bikes and the Garden Project showcasing their work.

All the activities on the day will be led by service learners including, tours of community gardens, garden tool cleaning service, and stalls selling garden produce – the TAG Bikes workshop will also be open on the day.
The new not-for-profit project will involve learners selling and finding a new home for donated items including adults clothing, shoes, children’s clothes, and toys.
The shop will be based in Huntingdon Community Centre and be run by enthusiastic learners who will be exposed to a variety of skills including handling money, cleaning clothes, customer service, health and safety in the workplace and stock replenishment.
Cambridgeshire County Council’s Operational Lead for Provider Services Emily Wheeler said, “It’s wonderful seeing our Supporting into Work programme grow within the community.
“The Rags to Riches project will help us to welcome and take on new learners that we can support by providing a positive space for them to boost their confidence and gain new skills.
“I would like to encourage locals to come along to our open day, whether it’s tips on taking care of your bike, maintaining your garden or having a spring clear-out there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
