The scheme follows the Council listening and working with the local community who asked for the new path.
Currently there is no footway along the lane to Meadowgate School which means the new link being created by Cambridgeshire County Council will make it much safer for local residents and pupils.
The scheme, which it is hoped to take four weeks to complete, includes creating a footway from the Meadowgate School, through to the footway in Quaker Lane.
Works start today, Monday 22 August and the Council apologies for any disruption caused while this vital scheme is carried out.
Cambridgeshire County Councillor Sam Hoy, Local Member for Wisbech South, said: "This is good news and something I have been campaigning for. Providing a path means children can travel safely to school as well as benefiting all other local residents. This is a vital link for this road and I welcome the investment and can't wait to see it finished."
