Work starts today, Monday, on the construction of a new shared use path to help cyclists and pedestrians travel safely and easily between Swavesey and Cambridge Services.

The scheme will provide a 1.6km long path that will cross the A14, linking the village of Swavesey to Cambridge Services and Buckingway Business Park, both major employers in the area.

The new path will be 2m wide and will enable cyclists, walkers and horses to avoid using the main road where vehicles travel at high speed and there is poor visibility.

The project is costing £450,000 which is being paid for by Cycle City Ambition Fund the Council was successful in securing from the Department for Transport last year to pay for good quality cycle links to employment areas in South Cambridgeshire.

The work is expected to take 12 weeks to complete. During construction, traffic will be restricted to one lane with temporary traffic lights in place between 09:30am - 3:30pm. Traffic will be closely monitored to prevent any delays causing congestion on the A14.
