Fire safety checks

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service provide free safe and well visits, where firefighters or specially trained community safety officers can visit your home and provide help and guidance in a variety of areas, including fire safety in the home and the provision of smoke detectors as necessary, falls prevention, alcohol use, staying well at home and crime reduction, including advice on scam prevention. They will work with older people and people with disabilities to discuss the risks of fire and to look for any visible warning signs. They also work with carers to ensure that they have the relevant knowledge and skills to get themselves and the person they care for out safely in the event of a fire.

To see if you are eligible for this service, complete the online form which will be sent to Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service. Please be aware that safe and well visits are prioritised according to individual risk.

Hoarding

A person who has mental health needs may not always be aware of the dangers to themselves in relation to fire. If you have concerns regarding the safety of a person, for example you have noticed that someone stores and hoards considerable amounts of belongings, papers or rubbish, and you think this may lead to a fire risk, you can arrange for a free safe and well visit.
