The purpose of the project is to work with parents who have had children removed from their care and to help them understand the range of issues they face, and to make a plan to reduce the risk of future children being taken into care.

The project will not be helping parents to get their children returned to their care, but will support them with:

  • improving self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness
  • accessing other services - such as education, housing and training
  • relationship issues
  • alcohol or substance issues
  • health and wellbeing

If you would like to be referred to the Space Project, please talk to the professional who is working with you. This could be a Social Worker, Health Visitor or any other kind of support worker. They will need to make the referral on your behalf.

If your case is suitable for the project, a Project Worker will contact you and arrange to meet up with you at a location of your choice. This may be your home or a café etc.

Your involvement with the project is entirely voluntary and everything will be done at your own pace.

The Project Worker will work with you for 6 to 9 months. Together, you will set goals and plan for things you want to achieve. You will also work together on building your confidence to help you make decisions in the future.
