Special schools and specialist provision

There are several area special schools in Cambridgeshire that offer children aged 2 - 19 with very complex needs, a curriculum that is modified and developed to suit their needs. Three county-wide special schools offer specialist provision for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties across Cambridgeshire.

All the children who go to our special schools have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan which identify that their needs can best be met by one of our special schools.

You can find details about special schools and specialist units in Cambridgeshire in the Cambridgeshire Online Directory.

In a very small number of cases, it may not be possible to meet a child's special educational and care needs within Local Authority maintained educational provision in Cambridgeshire. In these cases, after discussion with your SEN Casework Officer from the Statutory Assessment and Resources Team (START), children may attend an Independent Special School.

The Government produces lists of approved independent educational institutions, independent special schools and post-16 institutions (Section 41 Secretary Approved List) and non-maintained special schools and independent schools. These can be found on GOV UK.
