Expansion of Burwell Village College Primary School

Notice is given in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Cambridgeshire  County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Burwell Village College (Primary) School, The Causeway, Burwell, Cambridgeshire, CB25 0DU from 1 September 2017.

The proposed expansion will add 7 new classrooms, a discovery centre and design / food technology room, together with an enlarged kitchen and main entrance / administrative area. The building work is planned to be completed in August 2017. The additional school capacity is required to provide sufficient places to meet the future demand in the local area from a combination of new housing development and in-catchment demand.

The current capacity of the school is 420 and the proposed capacity will be 630. The current number of pupils registered at the school is 455. The current admission number for the school is 60 and the proposed admission number will be 90.

Cambridgeshire County Council will fund the new accommodation through the Council's capital programme.

The four week consultation period began on 7 April 2016, with a statutory notice published in the Ely Standard. During this time, members of the public were able to object to, or make comments on, the proposals. There were no objections during the four week consultation period and the proposal has since been approved by the Head of Service for 0-19 Place Planning and Organisation.
