Histon and Impington primary education consultation

Cambridgeshire County Council is working in collaboration with Cambridge Primary Education Trust (CPET) to permanently increase primary educational provision in Histon and Impington.

Histon and Impington are currently served by Histon and Impington Infant School and Histon and Impington Junior School which are run and managed as academies under this Multi-Academy Trust.

The Council is committed to delivery of the required additional primary education provision in Histon and Impington. This is outlined in the Children and Young People's Committee paper of 17 January 2017.

Histon and Impington Junior School will expand on its current site and extend its age range to serve children aged 4-11, providing a total of 630 places (3 Forms of Entry). It is anticipated that work will start on site in December 2017 with completion in the autumn term 2018. This is Phase I of a two phase project.

In Phase II, Histon and Impington Infant School will also extend its age range to serve children aged 4-11, providing a total of 420 places (2 Forms of Entry). In order to do this it is proposed to relocate the school from its current site in New School Road to Buxhall Farm, on Mill Lane. The proposed delivery is for September 2020.

The Council recognises Buxhall Farm is a complex and sensitive site within the village. Initial discussions have been held between South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council Officers and work is now underway to appoint a design and build contractor. When the project reaches an appropriate stage the Council will seek further engagement from key stakeholders, including the community.
