New primary school for St. Neots Eastern Expansion
Councillors at the Children and Young People's Committee meeting on 14 November 2017 recommended that a new primary school at Wintringham Park, which will serve new communities on the east of St Neots, should be established by Diamond Learning Partnership Trust. The Committee's recommendation was sent to the Regional Schools Commissioner who confirmed Secretary of State approval on 21 November 2017 for the implementation arrangements to begin.
The Trust currently runs nine primary schools in Cambridgeshire, including The Round House Primary Academy at Loves Farm. The Council needs the new school, which will open as an academy, to open in September 2018 to meet existing demand from the Loves Farm community.
Cllr Simon Bywater, Chairman of the Children and Young People's Committee, said: "We are committed to ensuring there is enough educational provision for children in Cambridgeshire. The new primary school at Wintringham Park will enable us to meet the need for more school places in St Neots."
The new school will serve children and young people aged 2 - 11 living on the development and in the surrounding area and will admit children up to a capacity of 630 pupils, plus early years classes. The school will open initially in temporary facilities from September 2018, moving to permanent accommodation, which is planned for completion in 2019.
