Young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can now access free Independent Travel Training (ITT).
‘Lift Training’, learning independence for travel, is a 2-year ITT pilot scheme run by National Star College in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council.
Eligibility
To qualify for the programme, young people must:
- Be above Year 8 at school or;
- Aged between 16-25 accessing post-16 education
- Have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)/identified Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND) and;
- Currently has/or is entitled to transport assistance under the Council’s Transport Assistance Policy to access school/college
National Star’s multi-award-winning Lift Training programme will empower young people with the skills and confidence they need to travel independently to their place of education by offering:
- 1:1 personalised Travel Trainer support
- Increasing self-confidence and esteem
- Journey planning
- Road and personal safety skills
- Time and money management skills
- Emergency strategies
- The opportunity to work towards an Edexcel/Pearson qualification
