Vital support remains available for residents identified as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, following the government’s announcement that the national shielding programme has ended.
The Countywide coordination hub, which has supported thousands of people since the start of the pandemic, will continue to operate, with anyone in need of help urged to contact the team.
Shielding was introduced at the beginning of the pandemic to support those most at risk of serious illness from the virus. The decision to end the scheme is based on more information being available on the virus, combined with the success of the vaccination programme and emergence of proven treatments.
The hub network has seen Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council working closely with district and city councils, along with a huge number of volunteers, voluntary, community, parish and faith sector groups to provide things like hot meals, food parcels, delivery of medication, house maintenance, befriending, transport and much more.
