There is an ongoing national drive to strengthen the training, qualifications and career opportunities of people working in early education and childcare. There are now well established qualifications pathways for both early years education and playwork.
Early years and childcare recruitment
If you wish to check qualification levels against the statutory requirements for registered settings, you can use the interactive Department for Education's qualification finder.
Job vacancies and information can be found on careers in childcare.
Training and qualifications
The Early Years and Childcare Workforce Development Team supports people employed in the early years and childcare sector to:
- develop their careers through professional development
- gain qualifications in childcare and playwork, from initial qualifications through to management and degree level
- the Early Years and Childcare Training Centre offers subsidised level 2, 3 and 4 early years qualifications, level 3 playwork qualifications and also signposts practitioners to partner agencies as appropriate.
