Performance of children's services

A number of aspects of the County Council's children's services are assessed annually by Ofsted. The council had an inspection of services for children in need of help and protection, children looked after and care leavers in June 2014. The overall judgement was that arrangements were good. This is a significant improvement from the judgement of inadequate which a previous inspection of Arrangements for the Protection of Children received in September 2012.

The inspection in June 2014 included fostering and adoption services which had previously been inspected separately.

The council has developed an action plan to address those areas that Ofsted considered to be in need of improvement.  This plan will be overseen by a Next Steps Board made up of representatives from the council and other organisations in Cambridgeshire which are involved in keeping children safe.

Ofsted also assesses other aspects of children's services in Cambridgeshire, for example children's homes as well as schools, childcare and early years providers.
