RECAP waste management design guide

The council adopted the RECAP Waste Management Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document on 22 February 2012.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Minerals and Waste Core Strategy requires developers to provide:

  • waste storage
  • collection
  • recycling

in line with the content of the RECAP Waste Management Design Guide.

Developers must contribute to the provision of waste management infrastructure including:

  • waste storage containers
  • Household Recycling Centres and Bring Sites within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The Guide advices on the design and provision of waste management infrastructure. This is for both residential and commercial developments. It includes the following:

  • internal/external storage capacity - the space required within homes. Also, for the storage of bins for both residential and commercial developments.
  • location of waste storage - issues in relation to the location of bins
  • waste storage infrastructure - a minimum specification for the storage of waste
  • highway design - ensuring that waste collection vehicles can serve new developments effectively
  • extra waste management measures - added measures for the effective management of waste
  • developer contributions - how developers will contribute to the waste infrastructure including:
  • waste storage containers
  • Household Recycling Centres and Bring Sites

The guide includes a toolkit for developers' proposals. Developers use it to show how they address the infrastructure requirements.
