Members of Cambridgeshire County Council’s planning committee have today (Wednesday 4 March) voted to refuse an application by Johnson’s Aggregates & Recycling Ltd (JARL) to extend their operations at Saxon Pit in Whittlesey.
Committee members carefully considered all of the information presented and weighed the evidence against both national planning policy guidance and local planning policies.
Following a wide-ranging discussion focused on vehicle movements and routes, impacts on the health and amenity of the local community, and emissions monitoring and management, the committee voted 5-3 in favour of refusing the application on public health and highways grounds.
The decision to refuse the planning application was made against officer recommendation.
The applicant will have the right to challenge this decision by way of an appeal, if they wish to do so. In the meantime, the applicant (JARL) will still be able to operate under the terms of their current planning permission and environmental permit. They will not be able to increase the throughput as the application proposed.
