Bar Hill Post Office set to reopen at the village library as new lease is secured

03 July 2026

Residents in Bar Hill have something to celebrate as Cambridgeshire County Council has secured a new lease to ensure the village’s only Post Office can reopen at Bar Hill Library.

The library, which reopened earlier this year, had closed for renovations in summer 2025, and residents have been without a Post Office service for some time before that.

With many relying on Post Office services and some residents being unable to travel easily to alternative sites, it’s been a priority for the council to ensure a Post Office can remain open in the village.

Councillor Edna Murphy, Cambridgeshire County Council’s local member for Bar Hill said:“I am grateful to council officers who have worked tirelessly over a long period to ensure that the proper commercial arrangements can be put in place to secure the Post Office within Bar Hill Library for the future.

“Many residents rely on Post Office services and it’s so positive that the Council has recognised the value to the community of this vital service. They have worked hard to secure the lease and I'm delighted that we can now celebrate such a positive resolution. The council has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring communities are well connected to the services they need, supporting independent living and combatting rural isolation. We're looking forward to the Post Office reopening as soon as possible.”
