Cambridgeshire County Council announces new Executive Director of Place and Sustainability

08 June 2026

Graeme Kane has been appointed by Cambridgeshire County Council as its new Executive Director of Place and Sustainability.

Graeme is joining the council as it continues to focus on delivering high‑quality place‑based services, supporting sustainable growth, and responding to the challenges and opportunities facing Cambridgeshire’s communities.

The role of Executive Director of Place and Sustainability is central to the council’s ambition to ensure Cambridgeshire is a healthy, fair and sustainable county.

Graeme comes to the council from North Northamptonshire Council, where he was Corporate Director of Highways, Waste, Regeneration and Growth, overseeing Highways, Transport - including Home to School Transport - Waste Services, Economic Development, Development Management and Planning Policy.

He was interim Executive Director of Place and Economy in 2023–24 and held the same role at Northamptonshire County Council before the new unitary authority was created.

With experience across District, County and Unitary authorities, Graeme brings strategic leadership expertise across place‑based services. He also has direct experience of leading councils through Local Government Reorganisation and the establishment of new unitary arrangements - experience that will be invaluable as Cambridgeshire continues to evolve and strengthen its approach to service delivery and partnership working.

Commenting on his appointment, Graeme said:

“I am delighted to be joining Cambridgeshire County Council at such an important and exciting time.
