Cambridgeshire County Council reaccredited with Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award

06 January 2026

Cambridgeshire County Council is proud to have been reaccredited with the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award, the highest level of recognition for organisations that go above and beyond in their commitment to the Armed Forces community.

The ERS award is a UK‑wide initiative that celebrates employers who support veterans, reservists, military families, those transitioning from service, and the cadet movement.

Organisations progress through ‘Bronze’, ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’ tiers, with ‘Gold’ representing exceptional leadership, advocacy and long‑term commitment aligned with the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Council first achieved ‘Gold’ status in 2020 and has now been revalidated for a further five years, demonstrating consistency with its forces‑friendly policies and practices. This continued recognition reflects the Council’s sustained efforts to create an inclusive workplace where members of the Armed Forces community feel valued, supported and empowered to thrive.

To secure reaccreditation, the Council provided clear evidence of the support embedded across its policies, working practices, and culture, including initiatives that champion inclusion, remove barriers and enable colleagues with military backgrounds or commitments to succeed.

As an active member of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Armed Forces Covenant Partnership, the Council also plays a key role in sharing best practice locally and strengthening access to wider support networks for the military community.

Councillor Yannifer Malinowski, Armed Forces Elected Member Champion for Cambridgeshire County Council, said:
“This reaccreditation is a powerful endorsement of the Council’s continued commitment to the Armed Forces community. It reflects the dedication of our staff, the strength of our partnerships and the continuous work behind the scenes that has created a culture where those who serve, or have served, are recognised and supported.

“The Gold Award is the result of genuine collaboration across the organisation to remove barriers, champion fairness and uphold the values of the Armed Forces Covenant.”

The ERS Gold Award revalidation ceremony will take place at New Shire Hall, Alconbury Weald in 2026, with the Lord-Lieutenant in attendance.
