Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council are pleased to announce the appointment of Lead Schools for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Music Education Hub, part of the national network of hubs developing music education across the region, funded by the Department for Education, designed to implement the National Plan for Music Education.
The Lead Schools, which are William Law CE Primary School, Nene Park Academy, Holywell CofE Primary School, Linton Heights Junior School and Chesterton Community College, are selected for their excellence in music provision and will play a pivotal role in:
- Developing strong music curricular and co-curricular programmes
- Supporting progression pathways for young musicians
- Fostering partnerships with schools, providers, and community organisations
- Ensuring access to music education regardless of background or ability
Cllr Edna Murphy, Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee said: “Many congratulations to the five Lead Schools that have been selected in recognition for their excellence in music provision. Opportunities to learn an instrument, to sing, and to explore how music is created and produced, are all essential for children and young people’s education and their well-being. I look forward to seeing the new Music Education Hub grow from strength to strength enriching our young people’s lives.”
Matthew Gunn, Head of Cambridgeshire Music, added: "We are thrilled to be working alongside our colleagues in Peterborough to lead this exciting new chapter in music education. The appointment of Lead Schools will allow us to build on our existing strengths and ensure every child has the opportunity to explore and grow through music."
Helen Harland, Music Lead at Holywell CofE Primary School, nr. St Ives, added: “Thank you so much for this exciting opportunity. We are very excited to be chosen as a lead school for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Music Education Hub and are looking forward to working with you to share our passion, enthusiasm and excitement for music with other schools and colleagues.”
Emma Mason, Music Lead at Linton Heights Junior School, added: “Linton Heights Junior School, part of Anglian Learning, are thrilled to become a lead school for the Cambridgeshire Music Hub, marking an exciting new chapter in our musical journey. We are looking forward to collaborating and sharing ideas with C&PMEH to inspire music and creativity to help reach a wider area of colleagues and pupils.”
Catherine Wilson, Music Lead at Chesterton Community College, Cambridge, added: “We are delighted to be appointed as a lead school, recognising the music-making that already takes place at Chesterton, and look forward to working with the Hub and other local schools in the coming months.”
The Music Education Hub will operate through the strategic board and two programme boards—one for each local authority—ensuring tailored delivery that meets the unique needs of each area. The Hub will also invest in new instruments, technology, and resources, including support for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
