Cambridgeshire County Council is the host authority for the National Active Travel Conference in 2026 – Active County Cambridgeshire (13-14 July).
Presented by Landor LINKS, the UK’s National Active Travel Conference, was first established in 2015 and in 2026 it will be held in Cambridge at the Ray Dolby Centre and West Hub, and hosted by Cambridgeshire County Council with support from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) who are sponsoring Day 1’s afternoon session.
Aligning with Cambridgeshire County Council’s ambitions to make travel across the county safer and more environmentally sustainable, and to help places and communities prosper – Active County Cambridgeshire will focus on better connecting communities to improve health, wellbeing and accessibility.
The key themes of the conference will be:
- Rural connectivity and integrated networks
- How active travel boosts local businesses
- Public health and well-being
- Supporting new housing and development
- Integrated land use and transport planning
- School journeys
- Enhancing commuter and leisure access
- Communicating the real value of active travel to society
Cllr Alex Beckett, chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways and Transport Committee, said: “I’m delighted to welcome the National Active Travel Conference to Cambridgeshire in 2026. Being chosen to host this conference is a real endorsement of the progress that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have already made promoting active travel across our county.
“Active travel is one of the council’s top priorities and is an integral part of our vision to ‘create a greener, fairer and more caring Cambridgeshire’. When people feel empowered to walk, cycle or wheel instead of driving, we all benefit from safer streets, cleaner air, stronger communities, and better health.”
In 2024 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, working in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council, was awarded level 3 out of 4 for their approach to active travel by Active Travel England, in recognition of both active travel achievements across the county to date and the comprehensive plans in place locally to do more. This rating has been maintained in 2025 and is the highest rating held by any UK authority, with only a small number of other local authorities also rated at level 3.
Landor LINKS, Active County Cambridgeshire conference organisers, are currently accepting applications from those who would like to present at the conference, on topics related to the key themes. Submissions will close Friday, 30 January 2026.
