A counterfeit blue badge has been confiscated and destroyed after a Civil Parking Enforcement Officer spotted it being displayed in the window of a vehicle in Cambridge.
Civil Enforcement Officers representing Cambridgeshire County Council came across the fake badge being used by a motorist parked in a restricted area of New Square on 18 July.
It was the second counterfeit of this particular badge found being used in Cambridgeshire. The genuine badge has since been cancelled and replaced.
Local authorities issue blue badges to residents with disabilities or health conditions, allowing them to access parking spaces closer to certain amenities.
Cllr Robin Wyatt, vice-chair of the Highways and Transport Committee at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “The misuse of blue badges will not be tolerated in Cambridgeshire.
“I’m grateful this counterfeit blue badge was seized by our fantastic team of Civil Enforcement Officers preventing it from further use.
“When blue badges are used fraudulently it undermines the scheme, depriving those with enduring and substantial disabilities, both visible and non-visible, of essential resources.”
