Summer is here and it’s time for Cambridgeshire to get moving.
Cambridgeshire County Council’s Get Activated summer activity campaign is back for 2026 – promoting hundreds of free or low-cost activities for children, young people, and families.
At locations across Cambridgeshire, the county council and our partners will be running a variety of fun events and activities to help children and families stay healthy and connected throughout the summer holidays.
From sports, arts and crafts, and outdoor adventures, to wellbeing sessions, community events and taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge – families will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities to keep everyone active, entertained, and having fun.
Highlights this year will include:
- A free special event at Wisbech Adventure Playground on Wednesday 5 August for National Playday, including various fun-filled play opportunities and activities for all to enjoy.
- Explorers aged zero to five can use the principles of ‘forest school’ for a morning of discovery, adventure and fun in the gardens of Peckover House in Wisbech.
- At locations across Cambridgeshire, join ‘Teddy on Tour’ for outdoor play activities and a picnic.
- A series of interactive sessions at libraries across Cambridgeshire, with hands-on activities designed to inspire creativity, encourage healthy choices, and promote sustainability – from creating musical shakers and a delicious fruit sundae with a professional chef, to making a plant pot from newspaper.
- Active Lifestyles is hosting a wide range of free activities for children and young people across Huntingdonshire, to keep them moving and having fun.
- Simple ideas to Get Activated this summer at home or near you, with free downloadable activities to enjoy whenever or wherever you like.
- And much more!
On Friday 10 July 2026, the UK Chief Medical Officers published refreshed physical activity guidelines, reinforcing that regular movement, no matter how small, can have significant benefits for people’s physical and mental health.
Get Activated supports this by promoting healthy lives for all through simple, accessible, and affordable activities for families in local settings. By helping families stay active and build stronger connections, the council is supporting healthier communities this summer and beyond.
Councillor Graham Wilson, Chair of the Adults and Health committee at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see our popular Get Activated campaign back for its fourth year to provide Cambridgeshire families with another fun-filled summer of engaging events and activities.
“Shaped by local insight and resident feedback from our 2025 Quality of Life survey, Get Activated connects families with a huge range of opportunities that support children and young people to be active and healthy, build confidence and stay connected – all of which are important to ensure they have the best start in life. Spending time together, trying new things, and getting out and about can make a real difference to our mental health and help tackle loneliness for children, parents and carers alike.
“There are hundreds of free and low-cost activities taking place across Cambridgeshire this summer, so check the website and keep an eye on the council’s social media channels to find out what’s happening near you. We hope as many people as possible can take advantage of and enjoy these brilliant opportunities.”
