Guided Busway Closure Between Clay Farm and Trumpington Park & Ride

07 October 2026

Cambridgeshire County Council is advising residents and busway users that the southern section of the Guided Busway between Clay Farm and Trumpington Park & Ride will be closed from 11pm on Thursday 8 October until Monday afternoon, 12 October, to allow urgent repair work to be carried out.

The repair is needed on a section of the guideway between Hauxton Road bridge and Shelford Road bridge, where engineers have identified a defect affecting a structural beam. A temporary 10mph speed restriction was introduced as an interim safety measure, but the condition has continued to deteriorate and specialist engineering advice is that the repair can no longer be delayed.

The closure will affect both the Guided Busway and the adjacent maintenance track between Clay Farm and Trumpington Park & Ride. Users of the maintenance track are advised to make alternative arrangements during the closure period.

The Busway will remain open between the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Cambridge central railway station throughout the works, as will the adjacent maintenance track

Bus services will continue to operate, although some journeys will be affected:

  • Whippet services will operate as normal and are not directly affected by the closure.
  • Stagecoach services will continue to run via a road diversion around the closed section of the Busway.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank residents, passengers and maintenance track users for their patience while these essential repairs are completed. Updates will be provided through the Council's communication channels and by bus operators as work progresses.
