Launch of new ‘Technology Enabled Care’ flat showcases ways technology can enable independence at home

02 October 2024

A new ‘Technology Enabled Care' (TEC) flat which uses everyday technology to help people become more independent at home was recently launched.

The launch provided an opportunity for people to meet the team involved, ask questions and try out some of the technology used.

The TEC flat is an initiative by Cambridgeshire County Council to showcase ways in which new and existing technology can be used to help prevent, delay and reduce the need for formal community or acute care.

The equipment available ranges from simple pill reminders to sophisticated detectors, sensors, smart devices and trackers.

An impressive 3,836 assessments have been carried out by the TEC team since 2023, and everyone assessed has either received equipment or been signposted to advice.

Councillor Richard Howitt, Chair of the Adults and Health Committee said: "New technologies can be transformative for the way all of us lead our lives and it is very exciting that Cambridgeshire can help provide technologies which are literally life-changing for people with different disabilities, dementia or other health issues. The demonstration flat allows people to see and try equipment for themselves from the simplest kitchen and bathroom aids to complex sensor systems which enable relatives to stay in close touch. It all helps people to be able to live independently, safely and with peace of mind, strengthening our commitment to being a more caring county."

The TEC flat is located at: Flat 12, Rectory Gardens, Godmanchester, Huntingdon, PE29 2BH.

To arrange a viewing, please contact our TEC team, either by phone, on 01480 378 160, or email: TECS@cambridgeshire.gov.uk (pre-arranged viewings only).
