Cllr Lucy Nethsingha, leader of Cambridgeshire County Council today welcomed news that the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s retendering exercise has secured almost all of the routes threatened by Stagecoach withdrawing its service, until March 2023
“I know that this doesn’t entirely solve the issue for people whose services have been changed or who are reliant on the remaining part of the 39 service for which an operator has not yet been found. In particular if they are used by students to reach school, college or training. We had already written to all parents whose children’s journey to school was potentially affected to assure them that the County Council is working hard to support them with this issue, and offering options for those where we have a statutory responsibility to provide that transport.
Longer term we will continue to support our colleagues in the Combined Authority, who have the responsibility for passenger transport across our area, looking into the options for bus franchising. Under this scheme the CPCA has the ability to specify which routes run, and when, in a way which is not possible for us under the current de-regulated system.”
