In August 2024, a consultation on the new Traffic Regulation Order for Mill Road bridge bus gate was held.
At the special Highways and Transport Committee on 4 October 2024, the decision was made to approve the implementation of restrictions on Mill Road. Since then, the Traffic Regulation Order has been made, and enforcement activity has been undertaken.
In November 2024, the County Council received a challenge on behalf of Friends of Mill Road Bridge 2.
The legal challenge claimed the reasons for the Traffic Regulation Order were unsupported by evidence, it was an ‘unfair’ consultation, there was a failure to provide legally adequate reasons and that Cambridgeshire County Council had failed to take into account material considerations in relation to the petitions.
Today (Tuesday, 8 July), following a court hearing in London, the court dismissed these claims and upheld the decision made by the Council in October 2024, therefore the restrictions on Mill Road will remain in place.
