Cambridgeshire County Council have published today (17 May) an open letter regarding their formal objection to the proposed representation on Wisbech Town Board.
In setting out this formal objection the County Council is making the following points:
- We welcome and fully support the £20m Towns Fund monies being allocated to Wisbech to enable the necessary development and regeneration of this community.
- Given the Government’s clear guidance about the composition of Town Boards, we look forward to playing a full and active part in supporting the regeneration of the Town.
- Recognising the significant role of the County Council which incorporates Wisbech and the critical delivery of a range of key services, including (but not limited to): social care, public health, libraries, and education. It is essential that the County Council is fully represented by an elected member, and that we are able to decide who we appoint to represent this authority’s views on the Town Board.
- We are disappointed that our representations to Fenland District Council (FDC) making these points to date have been ignored and unilaterally determined proposals have been set out by FDC without the consent of the County Council.
- Despite these views, we continue to look forward to working with our partners, locally and in Government, to maximise the benefits for the people of Wisbech.
