People will have seen the Government announced its devolution plans in December, here is our position:
We are planning for Cambridgeshire County Council elections this year as expected.
The English Devolution White Paper sets out a clear direction from the Government. We welcome the opportunities that greater powers and more funding being devolved from Westminster to Cambridgeshire could bring and will work closely with the Mayor and the Combined Authority to secure the best outcomes for our communities.
The White Paper also sets out proposals to take forward Local Government re-organisation particularly in areas where there are multiple tiers of local authorities, like Cambridgeshire. We expect to receive a formal invitation from Government later this month, we will await this invitation and further details from Government to inform our views, working with our partner authorities.
Our focus remains on delivering essential services across the whole of Cambridgeshire.
