Wisbech Adventure Playground to re-open

10 July 2023

The Wisbech Adventure Playground is due to re-open after a short closure to repair damaged play equipment.

It was closed on June 5 after structural issues were found in some of the play equipment at the playground in Waterlees.

The work is now complete and Cambridgeshire County Council – who own and operate the playground – are planning to re-open it on Tuesday 18 July.

Damaged equipment has been removed and the Council is in the process of revitalising the area with new accessible equipment for children and young people to enjoy.

This is in addition to the £914,000 recently secured from the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) as part of its Youth Investment Fund initiative.

This grant will mean the Council can replace two barges on the playground - which are in a poor state of repair - and provide a new space for young people in Wisbech.

As part of the revitalisation of the adventure playground, the County Council is appealing to local businesses, organisations, charities etc who may be interested in sponsoring new play equipment or wish to donate materials to create a community garden eg seating, plant boxes and other materials. Anyone interested can contact Head of Education Operations Helen Gregg at

Cllr Bryony Goodliffe, Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee said: “I am delighted that the Wisbech Adventure Playground will soon be open again for the Waterlees community to enjoy. It is a popular and well-loved facility, and I know our officers and contractors worked quickly to ensure it could open again as soon as possible.”
