Restoring nature. Empowering communities. Creating a greener future.

Our Biodiversity Strategy is a plan to protect and enhance nature in our county. It shows how we will care for habitats and help nature grow strong again.

Why it matters

Nature is under pressure from habitat loss, urban growth, water scarcity, and recreational demands. This strategy tackles those challenges head-on and supports our goal to become a net zero council by 2030.

Our priorities

  • Protect and improve habitats such as woodlands, grasslands, wetlands, and local green spaces.
  • Help nature survive and grow through conservation and monitoring.
  • Plan with nature in mind when building homes, roads, and using land.
  • Involve local people through volunteering, wildlife surveys, and community projects.
  • Link habitats together to create strong ecological networks across Cambridgeshire and beyond.

Nature recovery starts locally

Change starts in our communities. We are working with local residents, schools, landowners, and local groups to bring back wildlife in gardens, allotments, orchards, and nature reserves.

This project is funded by the Council’s Just Transition Fund. It helps communities take action for nature. People help repair habitats, look after local wildlife, and build a greener future with support from our Project Officers.
