Due to an engineering issue with some of our mobile shelving at Cambridgeshire Archives, we are currently unable to produce certain records from our strongroom. Please contact us in advance of your visit so we can advise as to whether any of the documents you wish to consult are affected. We apologise for the inconvenience. Our Property Department colleagues are working hard to resolve the problem. We will provide an update as soon as we are able.
We welcome visitors to our two record offices. Thousands of historical documents can be explored with the help and guidance of our knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Cambridgeshire Archives in Ely holds historical records and other information sources relating to the former counties of Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely.

Visiting our searchrooms
Visitors are advised to book in advance. This allows our staff time to identify the most relevant records for your research and retrieve them from our strongrooms. By doing so, they will be ready for you as soon as you arrive.
We ask that documents are ordered in advance, up to a maximum of eight per session.
Please email the relevant archives team at least two working days in advance with the document references you require or a brief description of the material. Also include the date and time you wish to visit. We will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your booking or to arrange an alternative date if necessary.
Archives card
Please note that Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Archives are no longer part of the ARA Card scheme. For the time being, in lieu of a card, visitors to our searchrooms will simply need to show proof of name and home address. We will be introducing our own Cambridgeshire Archives Service Card shortly. We regret that ARA cards, or cards issued by other archive repositories will not allow you access.
