We welcome visitors to our two record offices where thousands of historical documents can be explored with the help and guidance of our knowledgeable and friendly staff

Cambridgeshire Archives is now open in its new accommodation in Ely.

It holds historical records and other information sources relating to the former counties of Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely. 

Huntingdonshire Archives in Huntingdon holds historical records and other information sources relating to the former county of Huntingdonshire.

Visiting our searchrooms

Visiting is by appointment only. We are still limiting numbers in our searchroom and until this policy is reviewed, we ask that you book a morning or afternoon session only.

Documents must be ordered in advance, up to a maximum of eight per session. These will be ready for you immediately on arrival, so you can make more efficient use of your time with us.

Please email the relevant archives team at least two working days in advance with the references of the documents you require, or a brief description of the material and the date and time you wish to visit. We will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your booking or to arrange an alternative date if necessary. date for your visit.

Archives card

We are part of the ARA’s Archive Card scheme so we ask that you register for an Archives Card at before your visit. These are free of charge and valid for five years. You will be asked to bring in two of the forms of ID when you visit so we can complete the process and issue your card.
