Who is responsible for grass cutting in my area?

We maintain grass across the county to ensure safe pathways and roads for pedestrians and drivers while enhancing the appearance of our highways.

Cambridgeshire County Council is committed to keeping our highways safe and well-maintained through regular grass cutting, hedge trimming, vegetation clearance, and weed control. We also support biodiversity by managing some rural verges with reduced cutting to encourage wildlife-friendly environments.

For more information on our grass cutting schedule, please visit the Grass Cutting Programme in Cambridgeshire (2025–2026) webpage.

Grass Cutting in Cambridge City

Cambridge City Council manages all verges and grass areas within the city boundaries on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council. They maintain reduced grass cutting throughout the year, rather than just in May, to promote biodiversity. This approach creates areas of tall grass and wildflower meadows, benefiting insects, birds, and small mammals by providing food, shelter, and breeding spaces.

For more details, please visit the Cambridge City Council website.
