Redmere windfarm

Vattenfall is proposing a new windfarm situated in the counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk. The scheme is proposed within the districts of East Cambridgeshire, West Suffolk, and King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. The parts of the scheme proposed within Cambridgeshire would be situated in the electoral divisions of Littleport, Ely North, Soham North and Isleham. The scheme will be determined by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The project falls into the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) process defined through the Planning Act 2008 (as amended). The proposed development would have a generating capacity exceeding 100 megawatt (MW) and therefore falls within the nationally significant infrastructure regime, in accordance with the Infrastructure Planning (Onshore Wind and Solar Generation) Order 2025 (SI 2025/694).

Responsibility for accepting and examining the NSIP application rests with the Secretary of State and not the local authorities, who are identified as statutory consultees, or ‘host’ authorities, in the NSIP process.

There are six ‘host’ authorities (Cambridgeshire County Council, Norfolk County Council, Suffolk County Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council, King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council, West Suffolk District Council) involved in this NSIP project. All six ‘host’ planning authorities will work together as far as possible to ensure full scrutiny of this project is undertaken.
