Welcome to the Christmas Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) Provider Directory. The programme will run between 21 December 2023 and 2 January 2024 (excluding bank holidays).
The drop down lists below give details of holiday schemes offering free HAF places to eligible school aged children and young people over the Christmas period. An eligible child can attend schemes for a total of 16 hours at no charge. A range of fun experiences, a healthy lunch and snacks are provided. The Department for Education funds the HAF Programme.
How to book a place:
- Choose the holiday scheme from the drop-down list below and contact directly to book a place (subject to availability).
- Once availability is confirmed, pass the holiday scheme the 16-digit booking code noted on your HAF E-Voucher sent on 6.11.23 and make your booking. How to claim your HAF voucher – Holiday Activities
- Inform the scheme of any additional needs your child has so they fully understand and can plan appropriately to meet their needs.
- Provide at least 6-8 weeks’ notice where 1:1 support may be required for your child, as funding may need to be applied for.
- If you are unable to access the holiday scheme by any means (car, public transport, bike, walking etc), speak with the holiday scheme. With 10 working days notice the HAF Team may be able to organise funded transport (subject to budget availability). The closing date for transport requests is 7.12.23.
- Please ensure you inform the holiday scheme if you have to cancel so your child’s place due to illness so it can be offered to another child.

Children in receipt of free school meals with additional needs or SEND
We advise all parents to book as early as possible with the holiday scheme of their choice to avoid disappointment. This is especially important for children in receipt of benefit-related free school meals who have additional needs or SEND.
Booking early will enable the holiday scheme to work with parents or carers to understand and plan for any additional support needs a child may have. It is likely that providers will require at least 6-8 weeks’ notice prior to the scheme commencement.
The Community Support Service (CSS) supports children and young people who have moderate to severe learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex health needs. To access CSS (including CamPlay) your child will need an assessment from Disabled Children’s Social Care which identifies eligibility for these services, your social worker will refer you.

21st, 22nd, 28th December 10am to 3pm
We are an outdoor Forest School, our sessions are full of climbing on ropes, playing on rope swings, relaxing in hammocks, making natural crafts, learning how to use a variety of tools, fire lighting and lots of unstructured time for children to play and just be themselves. We will have a campfire that we will do lots of cooking on throughout the day. Children will be offered the chance of lighting their own fires too!
Our sessions are unstructured, and child led so we follow the children’s interests and allow them to direct their play and activities. We have a large shelter and some wooden shelters if the weather is wet, but we ask for the children to come in warm layers and waterproofs so that they are not restricted with what they can do while they are with us. We are all about engaging children with outdoor risky play, connecting with the natural environment, encouraging teamwork and friendships but most of all HAVING FUN while burning off lots of energy outdoors!
Due to the sessions being outdoors we find that children with additional SEND needs are supported well by the natural environment and unlimited sensory experiences. We also have highly trained staff to support those who need a 1:1. If your child has SEND needs or requires a 1:1 please discuss this prior to booking so we can ensure there are extra staff available to support them on a session.

We also have a campfire and a variety of tools such as saws, hammers, knives and drills for the young people to learn to use. We teach bushcraft skills to those who are keen to learn! However, the site is also rich in opportunities, so the young people are also fine to just follow their interests. Out sessions are child led and unstructured, so we always follow their interests.
We have several staff members who are experienced in supporting children and young people who are neurodivergent, suffer from mental health conditions, anxiety, Autism, PDA, ADHD and various other diagnosis. Sandy Hill is a Community Project Centre, we Offer a wide variety of outdoor activities to support positive mental health and wellbeing, giving transferable skills to young people within our community. The Centre is set in 16 acres of countryside. It has 8 ponies, 4 heavy horses and various small animals including chickens, ducks, rabbits, and guinea pigs. There is also an orchard, sensory garden, and vegetable patch on site.
Sandy Hill provides a haven for all ages to have a safe space, to recognise and achieve goals and to improve mental health and wellbeing. Sessions are delivered throughout the year and this Christmas our holiday programme is designed to enable young people with SEND to have fun and enriching experiences. Christmas 2023 will see us host a small group session with a ratio of two young people to one experienced key worker, allowing us to tailor our sessions to the needs and abilities of our young people.
Being out in nature and primarily outdoors is great for mental health and wellbeing and our ratios ensure we can meet needs and build familiarity allowing young people to get the most of the time with their peers. The activities are focused around engaging with the animals and nature, off the beaten track and surrounded by blue skies, trees and the sound of tranquillity. Arriving at the centre you are immediately greeted with passion, enthusiasm, fun, warmth and knowledge all within a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Please note – although we are an all-weather centre, the majority of our sessions are held outside unless the weather is inclement.
